happenings

So the other day Guy and I were just sitting around the house playing Monopoly (that’s another whole blog, though) and all of a sudden it got very dark outside.  It’s not uncommon to wake up to beautiful sunshine and gorgeous weather for most of the day, then around 3PM it clouds up rather quickly and a thunderstorm rolls through.  By 5PM it might be sunny again.

At any rate, we were battling it out against each other and the evil computer Running Shoe when the lightning started flashing and the loudest thunder this side of the earth crashed down on us.  Since the game was over anyhow, (Guy calls it giving up) I unplugged my computer and headed into my room to lay down for a power nap.  Guy started yelling for me to get to the door and when I got there, there were these two adorable dachshunds-beagle-mutts were at our door trying to get inside from the storm.

I quickly got the keys and the puppies bolted inside with their tails wagging fervently.  Once inside, they behaved like perfect children, going wherever you asked them to and not venturing off on their own.  They were quite happy to have a safe place to call home for the moment.  While, Guy and I were more than willing to entertain momentary thoughts of ‘keeping’ them, we ended up looking at their tags (we live in a gated community and they HAVE to belong to a neighbor), and discovered their names were Mona Lisa and Fat Boy Slim.

Thankfully, they had a number on their tags and Guy phoned the owner to let them know their prized pets were safe.  The owner informed Guy that they are two of FOUR, and the others might not be far behind.  We got to keep them and spoil them for a good hour before their master arrived, and when the guy comes to call them, they ran back into OUR house!  Mona Lisa wanted NO part of going in the car, and had her tail deeply between her legs and head down in anticipation of punishment.  I felt so sorry for them because the owners weren’t at all happy to see them or called them nicely.  Hopefully it was just a temporary mood swing on their part.

It was nice being a surrogate parent, even for just an hour or so.

DogGone It! Fat Boy Slim & Mona Lisa. Lovin’ the lovin’.
